ABOUT

We are a team in the St. Cloud and surrounding area currently supporting over 100 athletes ages 8 and up across 9 sports offerings (Basketball, Aquatics, Athletics, Golf, Bowling, Poly hockey, Powerlifting, Softball, and Bocce).

St. Cloud Special Olympics started in 1979 as a school-based program. In 1980 it was expanded to include individuals who were out of school or in community settings. The team was called St. Cloud Special Olympics. In 1988, guidelines were written in accordance with Minnesota Special Olympics and the name was registered with Minnesota Special Olympics as St. Cloud Community Special Olympics. In recent years the name has been revised to St. Cloud Area Special Olympics.

Our team relies upon its volunteers to provide a supportive, educational and social environment that makes our athletes competitive while having fun. We invite all athletes to participate in practices and/or competitions to the best of their ability. We strive to provide an environment that focuses on physical activity and social development. Our goal is to have fun while staying physically active!

Head Coaches are responsible for all communications for their team activities including registration, practices, Area, and State meet details.

Athletes, parents, and caregivers are responsible for informing the Head Coach when they will not be attending a practice or meeting. Volunteers are recruited to attend all practices so as a courtesy and out of respect for the coach and team, notify the coach of any practice or competition absences. Each coach will provide contact information for emergencies and other team communications.

If an athlete, parent, or caregiver has a concern, complaint, or recommendation please feel free to contact any member of the leadership team directly.
