BOWLING
Fall is the time for Special Olympics Bowling across the State of MN. St. Cloud Area Bowling starts in early August and our location for practice is at Great River Bowl in Sartell. Although there are some modifications made for athletes with physical disabilities, most athletes compete under professional bowling rules. We do not use bumpers. Some athletes use a ramp for launching the ball.

Practices are held weekly on Sunday evenings. When athletes arrive they will check-in, and ask for shoes at the desk. Balls should be the proper weight and finger size. We generally have 12 lanes available and practice time allows for 2-3 games. Scores are gathered each week of practice and are submitted to the State office where divisioning for fair competition (with athletes of similar ability) at State games is established.
We have a wide range of skills on our team and athletes are grouped by general ability and age. Social opportunities are an important part of our practice and we focus on bowling skills as well as sportsmanship and encouragement of fellow bowlers.
Suggested attire for bowling is comfortable, loose pants, and t-shirts. Our athletes do get warm during bowling. The bowling alleys do supply balls and shoes but many seasoned bowlers have their own shoes and bowling balls. For competition, athletes will wear their St. Cloud Area bowling jerseys.

At this time, our team competes in singles bowling. However, there are options for doubles and unified doubles on other teams if that option is a priority for the athlete.
