COMPETITIONS - ENROLLMENT

Competitions

Athletes may participate in individual competitions if they choose. If an athlete registers for a team sport, he/she must participate in and attend all team competitions. Most sports have two levels of competition. The Area competition includes other teams from Area 7 (Central Minnesota).

There also may be a third competition or regional competition for some specific sports. The State competition includes teams statewide. Athletes who wish to participate at the State competition must compete in the Area competition for that sport.

Enrollment

As our team continues to grow, certain sports will have a limited number of athletes that can participate. Those limits will be communicated at open enrollment time which is about one month prior to the start of practices.

Enrollment will be on a first come first serve basis. Preference will be given to existing St. Cloud Area team members first. At the beginning of each sports season, any spots that have not been claimed are open to the next registrant.

Registering for a sport does not guarantee a spot on the team. Do not assure your athlete that they will participate until you’ve received a confirmation that the athlete has a place on the roster. Some sports will fill quickly and a waiting list will be started. Thanks for your understanding.

Competitions

  • The “Area” competition event includes other teams from Area 7. All athletes are eligible to participate in the area meets. Transportation to the meets is the responsibility of each athlete, staff, or home. Athletes are required to participate in at least one area meet to qualify for state competition. Ribbons are awarded to participants. The Area times/scores are used to place athletes in appropriate competitive divisions for State Games.

  • The “State” competition includes teams from all over MN. Participation in the area competition usually will qualify an athlete for the state competition. This, however, is dependent on the family, coach, and athlete ratio. Some state competitions are scheduled over two days. Transportation and housing for the state competition is the responsibility of each athlete, staff, or home. If you have questions, contact the Head Coach of the sport. Athletes are assigned to competitive divisions based on age, gender, and qualifying times or scores that are established at the Area Games. Medals (gold, silver, bronze) and place ribbons are awarded to all participants.

  • National and World Competition are held every 4 years. Qualifying for these events occurs the year prior to the national or world games by having received a gold medal in the event in which you will be applying. If interested parents or guardians should consult with the Head Coach of that sport. Costs for the athlete’s participation in the games are covered but parents/guardians/staff expenses are on their own.
