POLY HOCKEY

November, December, and January are the months for St. Cloud Area Poly Hockey. Poly hockey is adapted from the game of ice hockey and played indoors on a gymnasium floor. The teams are composed of six players, including a goalie. The athletes use plastic sticks and soft plastic pucks. A poly hockey game consists of three nine-minute periods.

Practices start at the beginning of November at an area school.

We have a wide range of athletes interested in poly hockey. Some of our athletes have played for other teams or in adaptive sports within their school districts so we have a number of athletes with poly hockey experience, in addition to those who are newer to the sport.

Protective gear is required. Athletes need to provide their own helmets.

Floor Hockey

As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level and age (athletes are not grouped by gender as there are typically not any teams comprised strictly of male or female athletes). Poly hockey tournaments are offered at the area level and at Winter Games.
